Japanese snow monkey

Who was it that ask me to do a monkey? Initially i thought its quite impossible to make a realistic monkey cos not really distinct in shape and features, so quite difficult, at least i can imagine how a paper elephant or horse can look like... but a paper monkey? quite tough... Hideo Komatsu thinks otherwise and proved me wrong. This is a japanese snow monkey... tough fold, can be better though, try again when i have time...

Dwarf 2

did another dwarf... this time its much neater and i managed to pleat out a little moustache above the beard... heh... next thing i'll do is to make it play a musical instrument... but i think require larger or thinner paper... cos the number of layers really too thick... cannot shape properly, will tear. Ok... next project.. dwarf 3... muahahaha

Joisel's Dwarf

Well if some of u remembered? I once folded a dwarf by Eric Joisel, but i nv blogged it, i simply left it on my msn display pic. Why? Cos some aliens say that it looks like a frog... grrr... nvm... that was then... but now... having levelled up... i gave it another try... still not very pro, but decent la... can see a dwarf... this Dwarf is difficult cos dun have folding sequence... only can be collapsed from crease pattern and its not the easiest thing to do. Though its easier to make out box-pleats but still... anyways... tada~

Working the creases... *Box-pleats

After collapsing...

Finally...
Great model, got beard, eyes, nose, fingers... what more do you want?

Some simpler Seiji models

Did some simpler models from Seiji Nishikawa... Giraffe, tiger and a wagtail... the tiger is erm... haha i find a bit cute... haha got a face... i mean usually origami artist puts emphasis on the form, but here its a different thing... the emphasis is on the face... making the folding easier... interesting model... haha though i dun remember seeing a tiger with tat face...

Well the orange one is a seated-lion in case u cannot see.. rather iconic type of style, created by Guspath... rather cute also la

Another dragon

Folded another dragon... the original design wasn't like tat.. its improvised... its kinda like dragon in flight, but i added legs folded the same way as chuka ryu... turned out pretty well, so its always good to have a list of folds you can use...

Smilodon -- The Sabre-toothed cat

Similarly i have done this before but nv on A3 paper... also by satoshi kamiya...

天马行空

I have done this before but always on A4 paper... this time i used an A3 paper... much larger and i have better control of the whole model... turned out much better... a little neater and more grace than before... rekindled my love for kamiya's models... And for goodness sake, this is a pegasus, not a unicorn... so its supposed to have wings and no horns... unicorn has a horn but no wings.

Folded out of A3 paper cos its not manageable using A4... 2+ hours on this...

困兽之斗

Ok... i spent my whole day with dragons today... examining, figuring out, folding... shiok!!! satisfied!!! happy!!!
First was this half dragon, i think his dad is oriental who married a western dragon... the body look like oriental dragon but have wings one leh.. haha reminds me of the dragon in mulan... well i liked it very much... thats why i folded it in the first place.

But then got this little pig who rules piggidom, say something about dragon nv breathe fire or something... Wah... dun play play... gimme inspiration... Then i decided to make fire... with paper... haha. Well if you think its just crumpling a few pieces of paper then ok lo.. u are a genius... cos my table is strewn with paper after tat. I incorporate creases and soft folds for the fire... folded it with two square pieces of paper.
Voila~

Very good... quite satisfied... then this dragon can breathe fire but very lonely... so i folded another dragon... a western dragon this time... haha so they can fight...

Battle of the dragons...

After the Rubic's cube... the Magic Cube

Remember when me, Jasmine, Ginger, Martian and MBA eating teppanyaki... Jasmine say she only interested in modular origami... cos its useful... heh... Jasmine... look at this... Modular origami at the highest order...

Not only can it hold stuff... it holds a secret... and when you let the secret unfold it self... you will get the answer...

*unfold... unfold... unfold...
"Lo Behold~!!!!"

Bull and pig

Well i forgot who asked me to fold a bull... Was it tak tak or was it someone else... i remembered at least two person asked me to fold that... well forgot who... but i folded this bull... inspired and folded out from the base used by stephan weber... though the finishing is different... but aiyah... use wrong paper.. should use red paper, more fierce, red bull... haha
This one i quite confirmed its jasmine who ask me to fold it. Showed me a picture of a pig one fine day, tell me very cute... ask me to fold. Its a traditional design, so dunno who created it, but i added softer folds for the finishing to soften the edge, make it look less rigid.

This rat was folded some time back... long time no fold me favourite model of all times... so folded it, this is smaller than my last try...

Happy Mothers' Day...

Hi all... very very sorry ah... no entries so long... busy la... a lot of things going on... then sometimes nuah... lazy to blog. Kk... I've been going to the library... browsing books on flower arrangement... then i arranged this bouquet specially for mothers' day... but not for my mum leh... for my aunt.. haha. Mum ah, she say she got enough of that lying around the house...

Its kinda an origami purist work... all paper and a bit of glue... no cutting... pure folding... its made up of roses, and a pleat folded holder, added lotus leaves to bring out the roses... pretty neat huh!! Took me like a few days to conceptualize and 2-3 hours to make... Pretty!!

Afghan Hound...

The Story of Sadako Sasaki and the 1000 Paper Cranes

The paper crane is a symbol of peace and hope. This idea was popularized by the familiar story of Sadako Sasaki. She was just a child when the atom bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, but at the age of 11 she was diagnosed with the "atom bomb disease" or leukemia because of the direct exposure to the radiation.

With the encouragement from her friends and family, Sadako decided to fold 1000 paper cranes in the hope that she would be cured. She believed in the old Japanese legend that said; a person who folds 1000 paper cranes will have his/her wish granted; she was confident that each paper crane represented a wish and certainly a thousand wishes could not be ignored...

She used every piece of paper she could get her hands on; the medicine paper, newspapers, magazines, scraps, and other papers her family and friends brought her. She folded and folded hundreds of cranes as she watched her friends die in the hospital along side her.

Eventually, she realized that here wish had changed. She no longer wished for her own health but rather that this type of violence should never happen again. That there should be no more bombs or wars, her wish was for peace so that children like her and adults alike will never have to suffer and die.

She managed to fold 644 cranes before she could fold no more... She passed away on October 25, 1955.

Everyone was so moved by her story, her friend, classmates, and family folded the remaining 356 cranes to bury with her.

A few years later a monument in her honor was erected in Hiroshima Park as an example of her courage and dedication and her wish for peace. The monument has engraved the following:

This is our cry,
This is our prayer,
peace in the world.
